Returns and Refunds Policy
1. Introduction
This Returns and Refunds Policy explains how returns, refunds, exchanges, cancellations, damaged items, incorrect items, faulty products, and custom order issues are handled by Essential 3D Prints.
This policy applies to purchases made through our website:
https://essential3dprints.com.au/
Essential 3D Prints sells made-to-order 3D printed products, provides custom 3D printing, and may provide 3D design-to-print services.
This policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions, Shipping Policy, Privacy Policy, FAQ, and any product-specific information shown on our website.
Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts, or modifies any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law. Businesses cannot use store policies or terms to remove consumer guarantee rights.
2. Australian Consumer Law
Our products and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.
If a product or service does not meet a consumer guarantee, you may be entitled to a remedy. Depending on the issue, this may include a repair, replacement, refund, cancellation, or another appropriate solution.
A remedy may depend on whether the issue is a major failure or a minor failure. For some issues, a business may have the right to assess the product or service before providing a remedy.
This policy does not limit any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.
3. No Change-of-Mind Returns
Because all of our products are made to order, we do not accept returns, refunds, or exchanges for change of mind.
This includes situations where:
- You changed your mind
- You no longer need the item
- You ordered the wrong product
- You selected the wrong colour
- You selected the wrong size
- You selected the wrong variation
- You provided incorrect measurements
- You provided incorrect custom instructions
- You expected a different appearance where the product matches the description
- You do not like normal 3D printing characteristics, such as layer lines or minor surface texture
Australian Consumer Law generally does not require a business to provide a refund or replacement simply because a customer changes their mind.
This does not affect your rights if the product is faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied, or does not meet a consumer guarantee.
4. Made-to-Order and Custom Products
All products sold by Essential 3D Prints are made to order.
Returns, refunds, or exchanges are generally not accepted for:
- Made-to-order products
- Colour-selected products
- Size-selected products
- Product variations
- Personalised products
- Custom 3D prints
- Customer-provided model prints
- 3D design-to-print projects
- Special requests
- Products made according to customer instructions
This is because these items are produced specifically for your order.
This does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
5. Exchanges
We do not usually offer exchanges.
Because every item is made to order, we generally cannot exchange an item simply because a customer selected the wrong product, size, colour, variation, or changed their mind.
If there is a problem with your order, please contact us so we can assess the issue.
6. Order Cancellations
You may request cancellation of an order, but cancellation is not guaranteed.
Whether cancellation is possible depends on the stage of the order.
Before preparation has started
If your order has not entered preparation, design, customisation, or production, cancellation may be possible.
Where cancellation is approved at this stage, we may refund the order amount, including shipping if the order has not been dispatched, less any reasonable costs already incurred where permitted by law.
Reasonable costs may include payment provider fees, administrative processing, or other direct costs that cannot be recovered.
After pre-production has started
Once pre-production work has started, cancellation is not usually available as a full refund.
Pre-production work may include:
- - Order review
- - Custom request review
- - Model review
- - File checking
- - Model preparation
- - File repair
- - Design work
- - Customisation
- - Slicing configuration
- - Material preparation
- - Printer preparation
- - Production scheduling
- - Communication and project setup
If cancellation is approved after pre-production has started, any refund will be assessed case by case and may be reduced to reflect work already completed, costs incurred, materials allocated, and time spent.
After production has started
Once production has started, cancellation is not usually available.
Production may include:
- - Printing
- - Cooling
- - Removing the item from the print surface
- - Initial print assessment
If production has started, we may not refund the product price because the item is being made specifically for your order.
After post-production or fulfilment has started
After printing is complete, the order may enter post-production and fulfilment.
Post-production and fulfilment may include:
- - Post-print processing
- - Cleanup
- - Finishing where required
- - Quality checking
- - Packing
- - Creating shipping labels
- - Preparing the order for dispatch
- - Dispatching the parcel
Once an item has entered post-production, fulfilment, packing, or dispatch preparation, cancellation is not usually available.
If the order has not yet been dispatched, unused shipping charges may be refunded where applicable.
This does not affect any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.
7. Why We Do Not Use Fixed Cancellation Refund Percentages
We do not use fixed cancellation refund rates because each order is different.
The cost of a cancelled order may depend on:
- Whether preparation has started
- Whether design work has started
- Whether a model has been reviewed or repaired
- Whether slicing has been completed
- Whether material has been prepared or allocated
- Whether printing has started
- How much print time has already been used
- Whether the item can be reused or resold
- Whether the order is custom, personalised, or colour-specific
Instead of applying automatic percentages, we assess approved cancellations based on the stage of work and reasonable costs already incurred.
This approach is intended to be fair, transparent, and proportionate.
8. Damaged Items
If your order arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery.
Please provide:
- Your order number
- Clear photos of the damaged item
- Clear photos of the packaging
- Clear photos of the shipping label
- A description of the issue
Please keep the item and packaging until we advise the next step.
We may need this information to assess the issue or raise a claim with the delivery provider.
Depending on the circumstances and your rights under Australian Consumer Law, remedies may include repair, replacement, refund, or another suitable solution.
9. Incorrect or Missing Items
If you receive an incorrect item or believe something is missing from your order, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery.
Please provide:
- Your order number
- Photos of the item received
- Photos of the packaging
- A description of the issue
We will review the issue and advise the next step.
If we confirm that we sent the wrong item or that an item is missing due to our error, we will offer an appropriate solution.
10. Faulty Items
If you believe an item is faulty, please contact us as soon as possible.
Please provide:
- Your order number
- A clear description of the issue
- Photos or videos showing the issue
- Any relevant information about how the item was used
We may need to assess the item before offering a remedy.
Depending on the issue and your rights under Australian Consumer Law, remedies may include:
- Repair
- Replacement
- Refund
- Partial refund
- Another suitable solution
A product is not automatically faulty simply because it has normal 3D printing characteristics.
11. Normal 3D Printing Characteristics
3D printed products are made layer by layer. Because of this process, some visual or surface variation is normal.
The following are generally not considered faults:
- Fine layer lines
- Minor surface texture
- Small cosmetic variations
- Slight colour variation
- Minor post-print processing marks
- Small differences between individual prints
- Small differences between product photos and the final printed item
- Slight marks in areas where post-print processing was required
- Minor variation caused by material batch, lighting, screen display, or print orientation
We aim to produce clean, reliable, and well-finished prints, but 3D printed products should not be expected to look exactly like injection-moulded plastic products.
12. Customer-Caused Issues
We do not provide returns, refunds, or exchanges where the issue is caused by:
- Change of mind
- Incorrect product selection
- Incorrect colour selection
- Incorrect size selection
- Incorrect variation selection
- Incorrect shipping details supplied by the customer
- Incorrect measurements supplied by the customer
- Incomplete or inaccurate project instructions
- Defects in customer-provided model files
- Unsuitable customer-provided designs
- Misuse
- Incorrect installation
- Customer modification
- Accidental damage after delivery
- Heat exposure
- Water exposure
- Outdoor exposure
- Excessive force or impact
- Use as a load-bearing or safety-critical part
- Use outside the product description or agreed purpose
- Use in unsuitable conditions
- Failure to follow any care or use instructions provided
This does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
13. Custom 3D Printing and Customer-Provided Files
For custom 3D printing, customers may provide files such as STL, 3MF, OBJ, STEP, SVG, or other model/design files.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that customer-provided files are accurate, complete, correctly scaled, suitable for the intended purpose, and legally permitted to be printed.
We may review files before printing, but we are not responsible for issues caused by:
- Incorrect scale
- Weak design
- Thin or fragile sections
- File errors
- Missing geometry
- Incorrect measurements
- Unsuitable design choices
- Customer-provided model defects
- Customer failure to provide accurate requirements
If we identify a possible issue before production, we may contact you to discuss options.
If additional file repair, redesign, preparation, or print adjustment is required, extra costs may apply.
14. 3D Design Services
Design fees may be non-refundable once design work has started, unless required by Australian Consumer Law.
Design work may include:
- Reviewing customer requirements
- Reviewing sketches, images, measurements, or reference materials
- Creating or modifying a 3D model
- Preparing drafts or concepts
- Repairing or adjusting files
- Preparing a model for printing
- Communicating about design requirements
- Testing or revising a design
If a design-to-print project is cancelled after design work has started, any refund will be assessed based on the stage of work completed and reasonable costs incurred.
Unless agreed in writing, refunds for printed items or cancelled projects do not include transfer of digital design files.
15. Digital Design Files
Unless expressly agreed in writing, Essential 3D Prints retains ownership of digital design files created or modified by us.
This may include:
- 3D model files
- CAD files
- Modified customer files
- Draft designs
- Internal working files
- Print preparation files
- Slicing files
- Production settings
Purchasing a finished printed item does not automatically include the digital design file.
Refunds, replacements, cancellations, or returns do not automatically include transfer of digital files.
16. Return Shipping
Do not return any item without contacting us first.
Unauthorised returns may not be accepted or processed.
If a return is required because of a confirmed fault, damaged item, incorrect item, missing item, or issue covered by Australian Consumer Law, we will advise the return process and may cover reasonable return shipping where required.
If a return is accepted for any reason not related to a confirmed fault or business error, the customer is responsible for return shipping costs.
However, because we do not accept change-of-mind returns, non-fault returns are generally not accepted.
17. Condition of Returned Items
If we ask you to return an item, please pack it safely to prevent further damage in transit.
Where possible, please return the item with the original packaging.
A product does not always need to be in its original packaging for a consumer law remedy to apply, but safe packaging helps protect the item during return shipping.
We may ask you to provide proof of purchase, such as:
- Order number
- Receipt
- Confirmation email
- Payment record
18. Refund Method
Approved refunds will usually be processed to the original payment method where possible.
Refunds are usually processed within 5–10 business days after approval.
The time for funds to appear in your account may depend on your bank, card issuer, payment provider, or payment method.
Shipping costs may not be refundable unless required by law, the order has not been dispatched, or the issue is caused by a confirmed fault, incorrect item, damaged item, or business error.
