Product Overview
A single-colour house number depends on the wall behind it for contrast. Get that wrong — a dark number on shadowed brick, a white one on pale render — and it disappears from the road, which is the one job it has.
An outlined number brings its own contrast. Each character is built in two colours: a raised inner area on its top face, 1 mm proud, and a flat outline framing it — around the outside, and around any enclosed space too, like the middle of a 0 or a 6. You choose both colours.
The effect is that the number reads against almost any background, because whichever colour the wall is, one of the two is working against it. It also catches light differently from a flat face: the step between the layers throws a fine shadow line that moves through the day.
Both layers are ASA — the plastic specified for outdoor parts like automotive trim and garden furniture. Four base heights from 50 to 200 mm, three fonts, and the full character set: A–Z, a–z, 0–9 and common punctuation. Flat back, no drilling, no screws, printed to order in Perth.
How to order an address
Type your text in the box, then set the quantity to the number of characters. Spaces are free and don't count — "27 A" is three characters, not four. There's a single text field, so everything you type is made in the same font, size and pair of colours; if you want a second size or a different pairing, add it to the cart separately. It all ships together.

The realistic alternative is a rack of numerals at the hardware store. Here is the honest comparison.

Two problems with metal numbers in Australia
Stainless doesn't stay clean near the coast. The Australian Stainless Steel Development Association describes brown "tea staining" on the lower grades — 304 and 430 — most commonly within about 5 km of the surf, and sometimes 20 km or more inland, and says those grades may "even suffer more severe corrosion." That's a number with real rust on it, not just a tinge. The grade is almost never on the packet, and the one that holds up costs more than a hardware-store numeral usually does.
Then there are the fixings. The number itself might be stainless or brass; the screws and spacers in the packet often aren't, and once their plating goes the rust runs down your wall from each one. These stick on, so there's nothing to streak.
Where the shelf wins: cast metal will outlast this and looks the part on the right house. If you want something that outlives the building, buy it. What this does better is read clearly in daylight against a wall of any colour, without touching the wall.
Vinyl and acrylic
Vinyl needs a smooth wall, which most Australian house fronts aren't. It bonds to glass, colorbond or smooth painted render, but on face brick, limestone or unsealed render there isn't enough flat contact and it lifts at a corner. The colour is a film on top, too, with nothing underneath it.
Acrylic is better outdoors than its reputation, and worth being straight about — it holds colour in direct sun for years. Its weakness is that it's brittle: hardware-store acrylic numbers are thin sheet, and thin acrylic chips and cracks when a ladder or a whipper snipper catches it. ASA is tough rather than rigid.
Hardware-store ranges vary between stores and change without notice.
Why ASA, not the usual 3D printing plastic
Almost everything sold as a 3D printed ornament is made from PLA — cheap and easy to print, and the wrong plastic for a wall in Australian sun. It isn't made to handle UV, and it goes soft at a lower temperature than the alternatives.
ASA is the plastic industry uses when the part has to live outdoors — exterior car trim, cladding, garden furniture. It was developed to fix the weakness that makes other plastics fail outside. Both parts here are ASA — the body and the raised outline alike. It costs more than PLA, prints slower and is fussier to get right, and outside that's the whole point.

Which size do I need?
It depends on how far the number sits from where someone reads it. As a starting point:

The outline buys real legibility at distance, so if you're between two sizes here you have a little more room than you would with a plain number. Going up is still the safer error.
AS/NZS 4819, the Australian and New Zealand addressing standard, requires an address number to be "clearly legible from where the site would normally be accessed" — and for a unit, that the street number is shown as well as the unit number. It sets no minimum height, so the table above is our guidance rather than a rule. Your council may have its own requirements.
Character sizes
The size you choose is the font's base height. It's the reference every character is built from, not the finished height of the piece — most capitals match it exactly, round letters overshoot slightly, ascenders rise above it and descenders drop below. The slash is the tallest character in all three fonts.
The tables below give the real printed size of every character, measured from the models we print from. Each cell reads height × width × thickness in millimetres. Open the font you've chosen.
If you're fitting an address into a measured space, add up the widths and then allow a gap between characters — roughly 7% of the base height for Modern and 13% for Cyber. Cursive is a joining script, so its characters sit almost touching; leave next to nothing between them.

Allow about 1% for printing tolerance on top of these figures. A character shown as N/A at 200 mm is wider than our print bed at that size and can’t be made — every other character is available in every size. If your text includes one, we’ll contact you before printing.
Choosing your two colours
The character colour is the raised inner area — the large surface people read, and the colour they'll say the numbers are. The outline colour is the flat border framing it, and its only job is contrast.
We only offer pairings that actually work at a distance, so the combinations in the picker are already filtered. That rules out two things, for the same reason: the same colour on itself, which isn't an outline at all, and any two colours close in lightness, which merge into one shape from the road however different they look side by side on a screen. At distance the eye reads light and dark long before it reads hue.
So the choice in front of you is which way round to run it — light face with a dark outline, or dark face with a light one. Squint at your wall: whichever of the two contrasts more with it should be the outline, because that's the one doing the separating.
If you want a single colour with no outline, the plain version does that properly and costs less.
Both colours run right through their layer. There's nothing painted, so there's nothing to chip or peel, and a scuff shows the same colour underneath. Screens vary, so treat the swatches as a guide rather than a match — ask us if you need to match existing numbers or trim exactly.
Common questions
Is it thicker than the plain version?
By 1 mm — the height of the raised area. Height and width are identical to the plain version, because the raised part sits inside the character's footprint rather than around it.
Do i and j come as one piece?
No — the stem and the dot are two separate pieces, because that's what they are. Worth knowing before you plan your spacing.
How long will they last outside?
We don't put a number on it, because we don't have test data behind one. What we can tell you is which plastic we chose and why it's the one used for parts that live outdoors — see Why ASA above. How any plastic ages outside depends on your climate, your aspect and how much direct sun it takes.
Can I get a colour that isn't shown?
Sometimes. The swatches reflect what we stock in outdoor-grade ASA, and the range grows. Ask before ordering and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get it.
Do you do trade or bulk quantities?
Yes — unit numbers for apartment blocks, room numbers for accommodation, door numbers for a development. Two-tone numbering is a good fit where the wall colour varies across a site. tell us what you need and we'll quote it.
What it won't do
- It isn't metal, and it won't outlive the house. No weight of cast bronze, no look of brushed stainless. Cast metal will still be on the wall long after this needs replacing, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
- It isn't illuminated. The outline helps enormously in daylight and does nothing after dark.
- The outline is an even band, not a variable one. It follows the character's own shape; it isn't a decorative border you can style separately.
- It isn't a structural or fire-rated product. It's signage.
About the printed finish
These are 3D printed, and a printed object has a texture worth knowing about before it arrives. The face and the sides are different. We print base-down and face-up, so the face you see on the wall is the top surface of the print — fine parallel passes with a single loop following the character's edge. The stacked layer lines people associate with 3D printing are on the sides, running around the character's profile. Both are visible from arm's length and neither is visible from the street.
Because the second colour is printed as a raised layer rather than masked or painted on, the line between the two colours is a physical step. Look closely and you'll see it as an edge rather than a printed boundary — which is exactly why it can't blur, bleed or wear.
The back is flat and clean, so it sits properly against your wall.
Fixing them up
Every character has a flat back and no fixing holes, so they go on with adhesive. We don't include one — which is deliberate. The right product depends entirely on your wall, a generic tape that doesn't suit your surface goes straight in the bin, and the correct one costs a few dollars at any hardware store.

Tape needs flat contact to work. On textured brick or limestone there isn't enough of it, and tape will let go — that's the single most common way stick-on numbers fail. Silicone fills the texture instead, which is why it's the answer on those walls.
If you use silicone, choose neutral-cure rather than acetic-cure (the kind that smells of vinegar). Neutral-cure is kinder to paint, render and metal.
Putting them up
- Clean the surface with methylated spirits and let it dry.
- Position with low-tack masking tape first, then stand back at the distance people will actually read them from. Spacing always looks different from the footpath than it does from arm's length.
- Press each character firmly for around thirty seconds.
- Leave it a day before testing it in wind or rain.
